Alcaxua, Lda. is a private Portuguese company established in 2012.
Its activities are diverse, having the focus on the development of the site 'Lugar Minas da Caveira', the ancient and modern mines, which for a long period shaped the life in the region of Grândola.
Alcaxua, Lda. operates an enterprise producing and offering agrar, nursery and forest products, and tourist lodging in 'Serra da Caveira'', maintains a natural park for visitors and organizes events, all included in so-called 'Turismo em Espaço Rural' under the governamental regulation term 'Agroturismo' with characteristics differentiated according to the diversity of the environment, the economy and the uniqueness of history, tradition and culture.
The property has a total area of 149 ha being 1/3 forests of cork oaks, and including several hills and valleys, and water dams with a total surface of 4,7 ha and annual water reserves of over 120.000 m3.
Legacy
With the acquisition of this property, Alcaxua, Lda. took over a most unknown legacy going beyond the mining activity. Since then, it has been uncovered step by step and continuously implemented to revive the spirit of this natural and culturally multi-dimensional living space.
